Mark Cain

Mark Cain provides executive direction for the firm, including ensuring exceptional client relationships, the acquisition of new work, and daily operations. In his leadership role, he works closely with the company’s regional executives to develop pursuit strategies for new work and to coordinate the allocation of the company’s resources. He also focuses on identifying and proactively addressing risks and opportunities across the organization. A highly-regarded visionary, Mark is a tenacious problem solver, actively engaged in early negotiations and project planning — all the way through closeout. Most importantly, he is thoroughly devoted to cultivating the firm’s corporate culture, and dedicating time to mentor up-and-coming leaders.

Mark’s pride in the company’s reputation for honesty and integrity is absolute; a reputation supported by the belief that corporate responsibility extends well beyond the bottom line.

In 2010, Mark assumed the new leadership role of President and Vice CEO of The Smoot Corporation, firmly establishing third generation leadership of the family business. He also continues in his role as President and CEO of Smoot Construction in Washington, D.C. Mark has been a member of the Smoot Corporation Board of Directors since 2005.

In addition to his executive leadership role, Mark offers more than 25 years of experience in construction management, project financing and administration, and real estate development to public and private clients on a very diverse range of project types.

Mark is a member of the Construction Industry Roundtable, is on the ACE Mentorship National Advisory Council and is also a Member of the African American Real Estate Professionals.
